Lenovo Image Options

Depending on the laptops and software licenses owned by your site, you will have different image options to deploy to your laptops. Here's an overview of what is different between them.

Office 2024

This image is the most similar to what you're used to with Windows 10 images. This should be your go-to image for presentation computers.

Office 365

This new option is available with Windows 11 images. It is NOT a drop-in replacement for the Office 2024 image. Office 365 works differently and should be considered a special use case. There is another wiki page outlining the details.

The TL;DR is that Office 365 images do not come with licensing out of the box because with Office 365, licensing is attached to a login rather than to the software or the machine. The complicated part is determining who needs to log in because we cannot use generic logins and because we need to be conscious of data leaks from mixing who uses what when.

Stock

The only difference between this image and the Office 2024 image is that the Stock image has the previous version of Office (2021 instead of 2024). The latest version of Office costs more and we have fewer licenses available, so this should be the go-to image for laptops that are not primarily used for PowerPoint, e.g. control laptops, Zoom, etc. All images for special software (ProPresenter, Resolume, vMix) also have the previous version of Office.

ProPresenter, Resolume, and vMix

These are specialty images for particular purposes. If your site has a license to the software, then you should have an image available for that software.

Transferrable Licenses

ProPresenter and Resolume licenses can be transferred from one laptop to another simply by unregistering on one and registering on another. There is a wiki article on this for ProPresenter, and Resolume's own website has a good guide for registering and unregistering to move licenses around. This is why your imaging server offers the ability to put this software on any of your laptops rather than only a subset; you could activate the software on any of those machines (though not all of them unless you have enough licenses).

Non-Transferrable Licenses

Unlike ProPresenter and Resolume, vMix licenses require intervention from Event IT to be reassigned to another device. This is why vMix laptops have their own separate ProductIDs in R2, and there are different ProductIDs or different levels of vMix license as well. This is also why your imaging server has particular assets set aside to be used exclusively as vMix machines.
